Anthology
A Moment in Time (AMIT) is an indie-funded anthology series consisting of six short films, each a unique story with an underlying unifying societal issue as its theme.
Each episode is 'a moment in time' revolving around a pivotal, high-charged moment that encapsulates a critical challenge facing young Africans today - from patriarchy and sexual abuse to colonisation, slavery, and corruption in leadership. The series seeks to offer a new narrative that aligns with young African realities and aspirations: where we come from, and where we are going.
Created and written by first-time filmmaker Mudzithe Phiri, the series is a raw, unflinching critique of the modern African experience, designed to jolt audiences from complacency and ignite urgent conversations about the continent's past, present and future.

Films
Six stories. Six societal fault lines. Each one a moment in time - the pivotal, high-charged instant where everything turns.
It's the scream of a generation ignored. The daughter of a martyred freedom fighter, forged into a weapon by years of militant training, now points her fury at the heart of the establishment. Her plot to assassinate all 54 African presidents is more than revenge; it's a desperate, violent tantrum demanding that the old guards finally see the youth they've betrayed.
On the eve of his victory, a corrupt politician is haunted not by ghosts, but by the ancestors he has failed. Like a modern-day Scrooge, he is shown the precise moment the betrayal began, the point where the promise of a nation was sold for personal gain. It's a final, desperate appeal to the conscience of a leader, a warning that the dawn will bring either redemption or ruin for the continent.
A night of intoxicating connection ends in a cold interrogation room. A wealthy white South African, whose family's fortune is built on the very land now in dispute, can't remember what happened to the black woman who beguiled him the night before. As fragments of memory return, he must confront not only a possible murder but the ghosts of a nation's history and his own complicity.
She is Mother Nature; she is the mother of humanity. She is the one who must play the villain so her children can grow, the one who sacrifices and is met with destruction. This is an examination of the Black mother figure, a being who gives life and is repaid with betrayal. It asks the ultimate question: will we choose to kill our creator, or will we finally learn to work with her to build a better world?
They build a box and call it a home. They give you a crown of thorns and call you a queen. This is the story of the roles that suffocate us, the identity of 'woman' that is a cage. It's a raw look at how the patriarchy strips us bare, forcing us into the singular path of wife and mother, violently shaming us for wanting more and denying us the universe of experiences we are meant to have, all in the name of control.

Filmmaker
Mudzithe Phiri
Creator, Writer, Executive Producer
Mudzithe Phiri is an entrepreneur and a fierce new voice in African cinema. A Moment in Time marks her debut as a filmmaker - a project she tirelessly championed for three years to bring to the screen.
With a background in corporate and a lifelong passion for writing, Phiri has channelled her frustrations and hopes for the continent into a provocative, conversation-starting anthology. As the founder of Isio Africa, her mission is to build a commercially viable and culturally authentic African media entertainment industry from the ground up.
Her work is driven by the belief that storytelling is the most powerful weapon for social change. Going forward, she intends to direct her own films to ensure her creative vision remains undiluted.
Creator’s Statement
Africans need to be snapped out of it… my films are raw because I feel like maybe if it's shown in its rawness, people will understand why it's important that we address these things. That we address colonization, it never ended. That we address the patriarchy and how religion continues to enforce patriarchal systems.
Storytelling is African and at its core our whole culture is built on storytelling and so we must think about building systems and models that are unique to us, to our people, to our environment, to our market. We have to start building commercial structures, commercial systems for African film and we have to stop looking to the west to guide that.
The best part of working on this was working with the crew. They were amazing. Everybody who worked on this film, all black crew, they were on time every day early. It was just amazing to have a team of Africans working together - work ethic on 100, on point.
